  Why some people cannot be closer to god?

  i have been speaking with 2 beautiful jw's for the past few months (after bagging the religion), but still have many, many unanswered questions.. one of the many that bothers me is this:.

  why does god allow mental illness?

  say a human is born with skitzophrenia or autism or a mental disorder that, not by their own fault, distances them from god because their minds simply cannot process the thought.

  Here is my opinion with no scriptures.

  In bible times mental disorders such as schizophrenia and epilepsy were unheard of. Persons who displayed what we now know to be the recognisable symptoms of these disorders today, back then, had their illnesses attributed to demon possession.

  I would ask, if the bible was written by an all seeing, knowing and loving god one would expect there to be clarification or instructions on mental illness. Even Christ did not correct such mistaken beliefs whilst on earth but perpetuated such misconceptions and myths by calling on demons to leave the afflicted person.

  It is only as advancements in medicine have found ways to diagnose and treat psychological problems that the belief in demon possession has almost vanished in civilised western culture.

  Belief in demon possession is still rife in parts of Africa where there is still ignorance of psychological disorders and those whose behaviour may be slightly different to the norm.

  What was your reaction when first introduced to the "1914" doctrine?

  i studied the paradise book, you may remember there was a whole chapter it in about the dream, the tree getting chopped down, time, time and half a time etc.

  now i was very young ( but of course spirtualy mature (!

  ) when i studied this but i remember seeing the person explain this doctrine to me and it was like.... " ok now you see this scripture here?

  They are now both in their 70s still toxic and very much still alive.

  I went to see Sweet, Rick Wakeman, Carl Perkins, Runrig, Graham Parker and the Rumour and a few others in concert, plus plays, shows and Pantomimes etc. at our local Portsmouth Guildhall.

  Only real difference for me was seating position. When it was entertainment, as near the front as possible and at an assembley as near the back as possible and I also wanted those seats on the end and as close to the exits as I could get.

  If Jesus is mediator for 144,000 only then who do the R&F pray to?

  By that reasoning there is no point in R&F praying at all, or have I completely misunderstood?

  it's funny how when you are able to take a step back an look at the big picture...you start to notice things that are just a bit wierd.. for instance...at the meeting the other night, we all sang song number 58 (notice the first verse).

  then look at the songs in the rest of the songbook...and you will see that verses of this nature are in pretty much every other song.

  keep singing these over and over at the kh and you begin to memorize them and eventually find yourself singing or humming them later without realizing it.

  No memorable talks at assemblies? Sorry to sound cynical!

  i used to give public talks from the rigid outlines from borg hq.

  i remember altering some talks from 45mins to 30mins.. this was great because before we were given 30min scripts i could take licence and pick and choose which bits i felt were more christian.

  before my exit i gave resisting the spirit of the world 30min with my own spin on true christian love.

  Until moving to Spain I always believed Jehovah controlled public talks/spiritual food etc., but for some reason his holy spirit was unable to reach us out there on a regular basis.

  Very often there was no public talk on a Sunday because there was no-one available to give it, especially when we went down to just one elder. There were quite a few sisters who would have been more than capable but they were never called upon, even though they volunteered. It did mean that we all got to go to the cafe bar an hour earlier though.

  If a brother was found to be visiting the island they were quite often called on to give the public talk but only if they had suitable attire for going on the platform. Dress was obviously of a higher priority than spiritual food. Jesus sandals not permissable!

  Our calendars and days texts wouldn't arrive til mid June, our years text was mis-spelt and British Kingdom Ministeries were sometimes not relevant for Spain. La Luna's cafe bar early again.

  The best talks were the ones we didn't have.
